About Stephen J.
Stephen J. Mooney has practiced law in Southern California for more than two decades. He earned a J.D. from Western State University College of Law in 1997 after completing undergraduate studies in business management at Rutgers University–Camden, where he received a B.S. in 1983. Those degrees bookend a period of training and early work that led him into courtroom and office practice in the region.
He moved into private practice in the late 1990s. By 1998 he was working at what is now known as South Coast Law Office, a practice that had previously operated under the Law Offices of Stephen J. Mooney. The record shows a steady presence in the local legal community rather than a series of short-term positions. Colleagues and clients have known him as a consistent practitioner who remained active in local bar circles.
Mooney is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. That combination of state and federal admission has shaped the kinds of matters he has handled. He has engaged in matters that move between state forums and federal appellate review. He keeps current on procedural and appellate rules that affect litigation in those courts.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained ties to the Orange County Bar Association. His continued membership in that organization reflects an ongoing engagement with the local legal profession. He has participated in association events and professional activities that bring attorneys together around practice issues and procedural developments.
Today he practices under the South Coast Law Office name, carrying forward work that began under his own office title years earlier. His daily work involves advising and representing clients in matters brought in California courts and in proceedings that reach the Ninth Circuit. He remains active in the Orange County legal community and continues to handle matters filed in state and federal venues.
He continues to practice law at South Coast Law Office, handling cases in California courts and matters heard in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
