About Stephan M.
Stephan M. Brown built his legal foundations at the University of San Diego, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2006. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Chapman University Fowler School of Law in 2014, taking coursework concentrated in taxation, asset protection and bankruptcy. Those academic choices shaped an early interest in the intersection of tax law and insolvency practice.
After law school, Brown moved into practice in California. He is admitted to practice in that state and began working on matters that blend tax planning with debtor-creditor issues. Early assignments included counseling individuals and small businesses on tax liabilities and restructuring options. That hands-on work exposed him to the practical pressures clients face when tax disputes overlap with financial distress.
In 2015 he served as a tax lawyer at The New Point Law Group. There he handled tax controversies and related compliance matters. The role placed him on cases where settlement strategies and negotiated resolutions were often preferable to prolonged litigation. He also spent time working with bankruptcy practitioners to align tax positions with reorganization plans and liquidation scenarios.
Brown’s professional memberships reflect the same dual interest. He belongs to the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association and the Sacramento County Bar Association. He is also a member of industry groups that address tax practice specifically, including the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the California Society of Enrolled Agents. Those affiliations indicate continued engagement with tax procedure and regulatory developments.
Clients and colleagues describe him as pragmatic and detail-oriented. He approaches matters by breaking complex tax and bankruptcy rules into discrete issues that can be managed one at a time. That practical approach informs negotiations with taxing authorities, preparation of bankruptcy filings and development of asset protection strategies. He has worked on both consumer and business bankruptcies and on tax controversy files that require careful coordination between counsel and enrolled agents.
Brown is affiliated with NewPoint Law Group and has also worked with The Bankruptcy Group, P.C. He handles tax and bankruptcy matters for clients across California. His current practice centers on resolving tax disputes and advising debtors and creditors in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings.
