About Stacey L.
Stacey L. Schlimmer built a path to law that crosses languages, finance and public service. She studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning a B.A. in 1993, and later completed language training at the Defense Language Institute, where she received a certificate in Arabic in 1995. She returned to Kansas for law school and received her J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in 2007.
Her early career did not follow a straight line. In 1997 she worked as a manager and auditor for American General Finance. A decade later she entered the legal world more directly. While still a student, she served as an intern in 2007 at the United States Lawyer's Office. The following year she took a job as an Assistant District Lawyer at the Johnson County District Lawyer's Office, a role that placed her in day-to-day criminal justice work.
Schlimmer moved into private practice and now operates at Schlimmer Law, LLC, where she handles matters stemming from her years in both prosecution and defense. Her membership in the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers — where she also serves as newsletter editor — signals a continuing engagement with criminal law practice. At the same time, participation in local bar groups and charitable efforts keeps her tied to the broader legal community.
She has been active in bar and community organizations since the start of her legal career. Schlimmer has been a member of the Kansas Bar Foundation and the Johnson County Bar Association since 2008. She has also supported CASA as a sponsor since 2013. These involvements reflect a long-term stake in local legal institutions and child advocacy initiatives.
Peers describe Schlimmer as a practitioner who has navigated different sectors of law. Her resume shows experience in government prosecution, courtroom work and private client representation. The Arabic certificate and earlier finance work add dimensions that are uncommon among many criminal practitioners, informing how she approaches research and client communication.
She remains based in Kansas and continues to participate in regional bar activities. Her written work for the criminal defense association keeps her connected to current issues in criminal practice and legal education. She currently practices at Schlimmer Law, LLC and handles criminal defense and related matters.
