About Joshua
Joshua Brunkhorst began his legal path at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in political science and criminal justice in 2003. He stayed at UMKC for law school and received his J.D. in 2007. Those years in Kansas City shaped his interest in public service and courtroom work.
Early in his career he joined the Johnson County District Lawyer's Office. In 2010 he served as an Assistant District Lawyer there. That role placed him in the local courtroom and involved handling prosecution matters on behalf of the county. The experience supplied practical trial work and exposure to the procedures of Kansas state courts.
After time in public service, Brunkhorst moved into private practice. He launched Brunkhorst Law, LLC in 2021 and assumed ownership of the small firm. As owner, he manages the day-to-day operations while representing clients across the region. Running a firm has required him to balance client work, case strategy, and administrative duties.
He maintains active membership in the State Bar of Kansas. That affiliation reflects his standing to practice law in Kansas and keeps him connected to developments in state rules and local procedures. His educational background in political science and criminal justice continues to inform how he evaluates facts, statutes, and courtroom strategy.
Colleagues describe him as someone who draws on years inside the courthouse when preparing cases. He has worked on matters that required hearings and trial preparations. In private practice, he applies prosecutorial insight to anticipate arguments and to structure legal responses. The combination of public and private experience gives him a practical view of how cases move through Kansas courts.
Outside casework, Brunkhorst focuses on running and growing a compact practice that serves local clients. He works from his firm in Kansas and handles matters that arise in state courts. His practice is built on experience gained in the prosecutor’s office and refined through private representation.
He now operates Brunkhorst Law, LLC and concentrates on legal matters in Kansas state courts.
