About Spencer Tyler
Spencer Tyler Merk began his path to the law after studying marketing at the University of Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in marketing in 2011 and later returned to the classroom to pursue a law degree. He received his Juris Doctor from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in 2014.
After law school he entered practice in the Ohio–Kentucky region and became licensed to practice in both states. He joined Merk & Gile, Injury Lawyers and rose through the ranks to become a partner in 2018. That promotion marked a shift from associate responsibilities to firm leadership and courtroom management.
Merk’s career has centered on litigation. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and willing to take matters to trial when clients need a resolution in court. He has been recognized by his peers and outside organizations; he was named to the Top 40 Under 40 by The National Trial Lawyers, an honor that highlights younger trial lawyers who handle significant litigation.
His professional memberships include the Kentucky State Bar, where he holds an active membership. He has maintained ties across the regional bar communities since starting practice, and he participates in matters that affect litigation practice and trial procedure. Courtroom work and client counseling occupy much of his time, and he has handled cases that require persistent fact development and argument crafting.
At Merk & Gile, Injury Lawyers he shares management duties and helps set litigation strategy. The firm’s name signals the area of law most visible in his day-to-day work. He spends time in depositions, hearings and trials. He also oversees case preparation and mentors less-experienced lawyers at the firm.
Outside the courtroom he is involved in the practical aspects of running a litigation practice. That includes coordinating with experts, reviewing liability and damages issues, and helping clients understand the trade-offs between settlement and trial. His approach to case evaluation tends to be straightforward. He assesses strengths and risks and lays out options for clients.
He continues to practice in Kentucky and Ohio and serves as a partner at Merk & Gile, Injury Lawyers. He currently concentrates his practice on personal injury litigation and trial work.
