About Shemeka C
Shemeka C Hankins built her academic foundation at the College of William and Mary, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Music in 2004. She continued her studies at Regent University School of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 2011. Those years shaped a legal mind comfortable with both precise drafting and public speaking.
Her early professional experience includes a role as an associate lawyer in 2012 with the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth's Lawyer. That post placed her inside the workings of a government legal office and exposed her to courtroom procedure, case preparation and the daily pressures of public-sector practice. Colleagues from that period remember a lawyer who adjusted quickly to the pace and demands of trial dockets.
Hankins has also been active in bar and civic organizations. She has served on the board of the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference since 2016 and on the board of the Virginia Women Lawyers Association since 2017. Her involvement with the South Hampton Roads Bar Association dates back to 2008, and she is listed as Immediate Past President. These roles have kept her engaged in issues facing early-career attorneys and in local legal community affairs.
Her résumé reflects a mix of courtroom exposure and organizational leadership. That combination has informed how she approaches cases: careful preparation, attention to procedural detail and an eye toward practical outcomes for clients. She has been described by peers as reliable in court filings and deliberate in assessing options before trial.
Hankins moved into private practice and is now associated with Invictus Law. In that setting she applies earlier public-sector experience to client matters, drawing on familiarity with courtroom settings and local legal institutions. She maintains memberships in several statewide and regional bar groups, which keeps her connected to developments in Virginia practice and to a network of fellow lawyers.
She currently practices at Invictus Law, handling litigation and client representation in Virginia courts.
