About Shelby N.

Shelby N. Ferrer earned her law degree from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law in 2014, after completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in 2010. She stayed close to the bench early in her legal education, combining classroom work with hands-on exposure to the island court system. Those formative years helped shape how she approaches clients and cases now.

Fresh out of law school, Ferrer took positions that put her inside the judicial process. In 2014 she served as a judicial extern to The Honorable Jeannette H. Castagnetti and worked as a law clerk for The Honorable R. Mark Browning. Those roles gave her practical experience in legal research, drafting and the procedural rhythm of court calendars. She has described the clerkships as invaluable for understanding how judges evaluate factual records and legal arguments.

She entered private practice in 2016 as an associate at the Law Office of Mei Nakamoto. Over the next two years she took on expanded responsibilities and in 2018 became a partner at the firm. Colleagues from that period recall her steady work on case preparation and client matters. In 2019 she left to open her own practice, the Law Office of Shelby N. Ferrer, where she took on direct representation and firm management responsibilities.

Beyond her practice, Ferrer has been active in community and professional circles. Since 2018 she has served on the board of the Hawaii Filipino Lawyer Association. She is legal counsel to the Miss Oahu Filipina Scholarship Pageant, a role she began in 2019. Also in 2019 she joined the Mediation Center of the Pacific as a court-appointed volunteer settlement master. In that capacity she conducts settlement conferences and works to resolve disputes outside of trial.

Her trajectory shows a lawyer who has moved from courtroom support roles to firm leadership and community service. She remains based in Hawaii and continues to engage with local institutions and professional groups. She currently represents clients through the Law Office of Shelby N. Ferrer and handles legal matters for individuals and organizations in Hawaii.
