About Sheila

Sheila Hatami trained first as a student of the law and then as a courtroom lawyer. She earned her J.D. from Hofstra University after completing a B.A. at Boston University. Those academic credentials began a career that spans state and federal forums in the Northeast.

Early in her practice she established a private firm to provide a steady base for litigation and advice. Over time her work expanded beyond one courtroom. She is admitted in New Jersey and New York and holds admissions that allow her to appear before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits. That range gives her the ability to file and respond to appeals as well as handle trial-level matters in two neighboring states.

Hatami’s professional affiliations reflect a mix of bar activity and community involvement. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Monmouth County Bar Association. Since 2012 she has been active with Rotary International and has served as Outreach Coordinator for Christ Church Shrewsbury, a role she continues to hold. These positions place her in contact with other lawyers and with civic organizations across her service area.

Her office is listed as the Law Offices of Sheila S. Hatami, L.L.C. There she manages client intake, case strategy and filings. She represents individuals and organizations in federal and state proceedings, and she regularly prepares appellate briefs in the circuits where she is admitted. Her practice requires balancing trial preparation with appellate drafting, and she divides her time between those tasks depending on the calendar and the needs of each case.

Colleagues and opposing counsel describe her approach as practical and procedural. She pays attention to court rules and local practice, and she emphasizes clear written work when filing motions and briefs. In hearings she focuses on the issues that judges identify as dispositive. Outside the courthouse she maintains ties to local bar groups and community programs that bring lawyers and residents together.

Over the years Hatami has kept her practice centered in the jurisdictions where she holds admission. She continues to accept matters in New Jersey and New York and appears in the Second and Third Circuit courts as required. Her current practice centers on representing clients in state and federal matters across those jurisdictions.
