About Sheally Venus
Sheally Venus Poe followed a traditional path into law. She earned a B.A. in political science from the College of Charleston in 1994. Four years later she received her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998.
Her early professional years included active involvement in the South Carolina legal community. She became a member of the South Carolina State Bar in 2003 and served in the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates beginning in 2007. Peers elected her president of the South Carolina State Bar Young Lawyers Division for the 2007–2008 year. That role put her at the center of programs aimed at newer lawyers and gave her a platform for bar governance.
Poe moved from leadership in the Young Lawyers Division to a seat on the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors, holding that position from 2008 to 2010. Her tenure on the board overlapped with continued service in the House of Delegates, where records show she remained active beyond 2007. Those roles reflect a sustained engagement with bar governance and policy, rather than episodic participation.
Her admissions include the South Carolina state courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Those credentials allow her to represent clients in state matters and to file appeals in the federal circuit that covers South Carolina. Public listings also identify two office names tied to her practice: Venus Poe Lawyer at Law and Venus Poe PA Lawyer at Law.
Over the years Poe balanced practice and bar work. She moved from roles centered on young lawyers into broader governance positions. The positions she held required coordination with bar members across the state and involvement in rule and policy discussions at the state level. She has stayed in the South Carolina legal community since her admission to the bar and has maintained affiliations that indicate an ongoing practice presence.
Currently she operates a private practice under the Venus Poe PA name and maintains admissions in South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit. She currently practices in South Carolina and accepts matters that may proceed in the Fourth Circuit where appropriate.
