William A. Maxey earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Clemson University, completing his undergraduate studies in 2011. He then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 2014. That same year he joined the South Carolina Bar, beginning a career rooted in the state where he continues to practice.
Maxey’s early work in private practice began in 2017 when he joined Mooneyham Berry, LLC as an associate. He spent that period learning the rhythms of firm life and taking on responsibilities typical of associate attorneys, including client intake, legal research, and drafting court filings. The experience provided a foundation in managing cases and working directly with clients under senior supervision.
In 2018 he moved to HawkLaw, where his role expanded and his caseload changed. By 2021 he had joined Thomason & Pracht, LLP as a lawyer. Each stop added layers to his practical knowledge of litigation and case management. He worked in environments that required attention to deadlines, coordination among teams, and regular courtroom appearances when matters advanced beyond initial proceedings.
In 2023 Maxey became a partner at Maxey McFarland Law Office, LLC. The move marked a transition from associate and staff lawyer roles to firm leadership. As a partner he now oversees client matters and participates in the administrative decisions that keep a small law firm running. His trajectory shows a steady accumulation of responsibilities rather than abrupt shifts.
Outside of firm moves, Maxey’s professional affiliation has remained consistent. He is an active member of the South Carolina Bar since 2014 and maintains his license to practice in the state. That membership grounds his practice in South Carolina’s procedural rules and court system.
