About Shawn Brian
Shawn Brian Cohen earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1993. At Penn State he served as president of the National Agricultural Marketing Association, an early leadership role that combined organizational responsibility with practical exposure to agricultural markets and policy issues. He returned to classroom study at Widener University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1995. While in law school he completed a bankruptcy clinic and the Pennsylvania clinic, practical placements that gave him courtroom experience and direct client contact before graduation.
After law school Cohen established his practice in Pennsylvania and maintains active affiliation with the Pennsylvania State Bar. His membership in the state bar reflects his licensure to practice in Pennsylvania and his ongoing participation in the state’s legal community. Over the years he has handled matters that draw on the skills developed in clinic work: case preparation, court appearances and drafting pleadings. He has worked on client counseling and litigation in state forums and has experience managing the procedural and evidentiary demands that those matters require.
Colleagues and clients have noted his steady, methodical approach to casework. He tends to emphasize careful preparation and clear explanation of options. That style is evident in how he approaches hearings and negotiations — steady, detail-oriented, aimed at resolving the immediate legal question while keeping an eye on longer-term consequences for the client. His background in agricultural marketing has sometimes informed his handling of business and farm-related legal questions, where practical knowledge of marketing and supply issues can affect business planning and dispute resolution.
Cohen’s clinic experience remains a throughline in his work. The bankruptcy clinic exposed him to creditor-debtor matters and insolvency procedures at an early stage. The Pennsylvania clinic provided experience in state court practice and procedural rules. Those formative experiences have shaped the types of matters he accepts and how he prepares them, from initial intake through court filings and hearings.
Outside the office he has maintained ties to professional networks in Pennsylvania and kept up with continuing legal education requirements. He continues to practice law in Pennsylvania, handling bankruptcy matters and other civil issues in state courts.
