About Shauna
Shauna Carmichael built a varied academic foundation before entering law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 2002, followed by a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University in 2004. She later returned to study law and received her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law in 2015. The combination of international studies, conflict resolution training and a law degree shaped an early interest in dispute work and public service.
Her legal career began in public defense and legal services. In 2016 she worked as a staff lawyer for the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Massachusetts, gaining hands-on courtroom experience and representing clients in state proceedings. She moved back to Georgia and in 2019 served as a staff lawyer at the Georgia Legal Services Program, Inc., where she handled civil matters for low-income clients. Those roles exposed her to family law, housing, and poverty-related legal issues and to the constraints faced by people relying on legal aid.
In 2020 she opened Carmichael Family Law & Consulting LLC. The practice reflects the through line of her work: helping individuals resolve disputes and navigate legal systems. She holds a Registered Neutral designation from the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, a credential that signals training in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. Carmichael is admitted to practice in several state jurisdictions, including South Carolina, Connecticut, Georgia and Massachusetts, which allows her to serve clients across a broader geographic area.
She maintains memberships in a range of professional organizations. She is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Lawyers, the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, the American Bar Association and the National Association for Community Mediation. Those ties keep her connected to developments in family law, mediation practice, and legal services for underserved communities.
Colleagues describe a practitioner who moves between advocacy in court and efforts to settle matters outside it. Her experience in legal aid and public counsel work informs how she approaches client needs and case strategy. She manages a small practice that provides direct representation and consulting services in family law and related dispute resolution matters. Her current practice focuses on family law and dispute resolution.
