About Shaun Patrick
Shaun Patrick Willis trained first as an aviator. He earned a B.S. in Aviation Flight Science from Western Michigan University before turning to the law. He then attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he pursued a litigation concentration and prepared for courtroom work.
Willis’s legal career has proceeded through state and federal court admissions. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and has been since 2002. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Federal Circuit. He also holds admission to the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
That combination of aviation training and litigation study shaped an early professional profile that blends technical comfort with courtroom procedure. At law school he focused on litigation courses and practical exercises that emulate trial work. After passing the bar, he began appearing in both state and federal courts, building familiarity with civil procedure, motion practice, and the rhythms of trial calendars.
Colleagues describe Willis as methodical in preparation and straightforward in court. He approaches cases with an emphasis on clear organization and attention to procedural detail. He has handled filings and hearings across multiple levels of the judicial system, from district court matters up to appellate proceedings in the Sixth Circuit and the Federal Circuit.
Outside the courtroom, Willis maintains ties to the Michigan legal community through his ongoing State Bar membership. That affiliation has kept him connected to developments in state law and procedural rules. His background in aviation remains part of his personal and professional identity, offering a technical perspective that can inform fact patterns where aviation or technical issues arise.
Willis practices from offices in western Michigan. He is associated with Willis Law and works out of the firm’s Grand Rapids and Paw Paw locations. His practice reflects his litigation training and his admissions to both state and federal tribunals. He continues to represent clients in matters brought in Michigan courts and in federal district and appellate venues.
