Shaun Marks earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan–Flint in 1991 and completed his J.D. at Michigan State University in 1994. He entered legal work as a law clerk while still in school and carried that early exposure into a steady career in criminal law. His education provided a foundation for work that would center on courtroom practice and the technical aspects of criminal prosecutions.
He began his practical career in 1991 as a law clerk at Groves, Decker & Wyatt, P.C. Two years later he served as an assistant city lawyer in the City of Flint Law Department. By 1994 he was practicing under his own name and has operated as Shaun R. Marks, P.C. since then. Those early municipal and private-practice roles shaped an attorney comfortable in both administrative and trial settings.
Marks’s practice has long involved criminal defense and OWI matters. He holds an Operator Certificate in DataMaster/DMT Science of Breath Alcohol Testing, a credential that speaks to technical knowledge often relevant in impaired-driving cases. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1999 and joined the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan in 1995. He is also part of the Criminal Law Section, a membership he has held since 1994.
His participation in organizations tied to impaired-driving defense is notable. He joined the National College of DUI Defense in 2011 and the Michigan Association of OWI Lawyers in 2012.
