About Shane
Shane McKinnie earned a law degree from Seattle University School of Law after completing a bachelor's in business administration and finance at Washington State University. He later added a master's in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College. That combination of legal training and formal study of strategy and security informs much of his professional trajectory.
Early in his career McKinnie served as a legal extern and intern in local and federal offices. He worked as a legal extern in 2012 at the Snohomish County Prosecuting Office and returned to the office in 2013 in another extern capacity. In 2013 he also had a Rule 9 certified internship at Callahan Law and a legal externship at the U.S. Lawyer's Office. Those placements gave him courtroom exposure and hands-on experience with prosecutorial practice and federal procedures.
In private practice McKinnie held roles that spanned firm work and large-firm review projects. He was listed as a lawyer at Lovik & Juhl, PLLC in 2013. By 2016 he was a review lawyer at Perkins Coie, performing work typical of large litigation teams. That same year he served as a deputy prosecuting lawyer at the Snohomish County Prosecuting Office, a role that reconnected him with public-sector case work and trial preparation.
McKinnie’s professional associations reflect both criminal law and veteran-oriented interests. He has been on the steering committee of the Washington State Veterans Bar Association since 2014 and remains active there. He joined the King County Bar Association in 2014 and has been a member of the Washington Defender Association since 2018. He belonged to the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers from 2014 to 2018 and was part of the Snohomish County Bar Association from 2014 to 2016. Earlier in his career he participated in the WSBA Legal Assistance to Military Personnel Section from 2013 to 2016.
He is licensed to practice in Washington and admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. His background includes prosecutorial work, private firm engagements, and roles that intersect with veterans’ and military legal matters. He works out of offices in Everett and a main office and maintains a practice that centers on criminal defense and military-related legal issues.
