About Scott
Scott Magee is a Texas-trained lawyer who has spent more than two decades practicing criminal law. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1998 from Texas A&M University School of Law. After law school he moved into the courtroom and into private practice. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1999 and began practicing under the name R. Scott Magee, Lawyer at Law that year.
Early in his career Magee pursued the specialized credential that many criminal practitioners seek. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. That certification reflects a body of experience in criminal matters and success meeting the board’s standards. Colleagues and opposing counsel have encountered him in state court and federal settings.
Magee holds admissions beyond the state level. He is admitted to practice in Texas, before the U.S. Supreme Court and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Those admissions allow him to represent clients in a range of forums, from local trials to federal proceedings. He has maintained membership in the State Bar of Texas since 1999 and has been a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2006. Those affiliations keep him connected to developments in criminal law and trial practice.
His practice has been organized under the firm name R. Scott Magee, Lawyer at Law, and later as R. Scott Magee, Lawyer at Law, PLLC. He handles criminal defense work for individuals charged in state and federal courts. That work includes pretrial representation, jury trial advocacy, and appellate matters when cases proceed beyond the trial court. He prepares motions, conducts evidentiary hearings and represents clients at sentencing hearings when necessary.
Clients come to him for counsel on a variety of criminal matters. The office routinely deals with felony and misdemeanor charges, and files in both county and federal court when appropriate. He also consults on strategy for plea negotiations and alternatives to trial when those options are on the table.
Outside the courtroom he remains active in professional groups that specialize in criminal defense. He keeps current on rule changes and case law that affect criminal practice in Texas. Today he practices from R. Scott Magee, Lawyer at Law, PLLC and concentrates on criminal defense in state and federal courts.
