About Scot C.
Scot C. Putzig built his path to the law in the Midwest. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor in 2010 and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Notre Dame in 2013. During law school he worked on the Journal of Legislation as the Solicitations Editor, a role that kept him engaged in policy and scholarly work while completing his degree.
After law school, Putzig joined the State Bar of Michigan and began practicing in the state. He joined local bar associations early in his career, holding memberships in the Saginaw County and Midland County bar associations and the State Bar of Michigan. He also volunteered as a pro bono lawyer for Legal Services of Eastern Michigan beginning in 2014, handling matters for clients who otherwise would have limited access to legal help.
Putzig’s career has mixed private practice with steady civic involvement. He has held leadership roles in local organizations for several years. Since 2015 he has served as president of the Saginaw Economic Development Corporation. He took on the presidency of Trinity Lutheran Church in 2018 and serves as a director for Frankenmuth Credit Union beginning the same year. Earlier, he was active in the Saginaw Valley Young Professionals Network and has been involved in area chambers of commerce and young professional groups since the mid-2010s.
Those community roles extend his presence beyond the courthouse. They show a lawyer who spends time on governance, economic development and local institutions, in addition to client work. He has maintained membership in organizations that connect lawyers and business leaders across Midland and Saginaw counties, and he has served on boards and committees that touch on education, finance and civic life.
In practice, Putzig is listed at Shinners & Cook, PC. He has balanced firm work with volunteer legal services and community leadership for more than a decade. His background in history and legislative publishing informs how he approaches research and statutory questions. Colleagues describe him as thorough and steady in handling matters for clients, and clients benefit from his ongoing roots in the region.
He continues to practice law in Michigan and remains active in local civic and professional organizations. He currently practices law at Shinners & Cook, PC, representing clients in matters across Michigan.
