About Michael J
Michael J Shovan studied history as an undergraduate and returned to law school a decade later. He earned a B.A. in History from Alma College in 1975 and a J.D. from Michigan State University in 1986. Those academic years set the trajectory for a career spent largely in Michigan courts and offices.
He began operating as a partner and solo practitioner under his own name in 1990. That work carried him through the 1990s and into the new century. In 2004 he expanded into business ownership, founding Senior Access Remodeling. The following year he became owner of Northmoor Investment Company. In 2009 he took on the role of managing member of the Law Office of Mike Shovan, a step that consolidated his legal practice and business interests.
Shovan maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He is listed with the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He also holds membership with the Better Business Bureau. Those affiliations reflect the kinds of matters he handles and the professional networks he moves in.
Over the years his work has combined private practice and entrepreneurial ventures. Running a remodeling company and an investment company has given him a practical view of small business concerns. That perspective informs how he approaches client matters in and out of court. He has spent much of his time on cases that touch consumer financial issues and the legal processes that surround them.
Colleagues and clients have encountered a lawyer who balances courtroom experience with business acumen. He has kept his practice centered in Michigan. His office has served as the base for both individual representation and the management of related business interests.
As of 2026 Michael J Shovan continues to practice in Michigan. He handles consumer bankruptcy matters and related legal issues at his main office.
