About Sarah Jane

Sarah Jane Kelly trained first as a scientist and later as a lawyer. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Genetics from Texas A&M University in 2007 and completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Houston Law Center in 2015. The sequence of degrees shows an early grounding in laboratory science followed by professional legal training.

Her scientific background informs her legal approach. After law school she pursued federal registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and holds status as a USPTO-registered patent and trademark representative. That credential allows her to handle patent matters that require an understanding of technical subject matter as well as federal filing procedures.

Kelly has chosen to practice in Texas. She is a member of the Austin Bar Association and joined the Texas Opportunity and Justice Incubator in 2017, affiliations that reflect ongoing local ties and involvement in networks that serve both private clients and emerging practitioners. Her memberships suggest she balances participation in the organized bar with efforts to connect clients to affordable services and practical resources.

Her work draws on two distinct training strands. The undergraduate study in biochemistry and genetics gives her familiarity with laboratory concepts, experimental design and scientific terminology. The law degree supplies the tools of statutory interpretation, procedure and client counseling. Together, those qualifications are relevant to patent preparation, prosecution and trademark matters that touch on technical innovation.

Colleagues describe her as orderly in file management and careful in written submissions. She places emphasis on clear explanations for clients who do not have technical backgrounds. She also pays attention to the procedural requirements that govern filings at the USPTO and in state courts, ensuring deadlines and formalities are met.

Kelly’s practice remains based in Texas and she continues to maintain the federal registration that enables patent and trademark representation. Her current practice focuses on intellectual property matters, especially patent and trademark work that involves technical subject areas.
