About Sara

Sara Vig built her legal career steadily after finishing law school. She earned her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2008, following an undergraduate degree in English from Missouri State University in 2002. The path from a liberal arts background to the courtroom is plain in her work: careful reading, precise writing and attention to procedural detail.

Her early professional years included a stint at LaBarre Young & Behnke beginning in 2010. There she worked as an associate lawyer and handled matters that required courtroom preparation and client counseling. In 2012 she began operating as a sole practitioner under the Law Offices of Sara M. Mayo. That move put her in the position of managing case strategy and the administrative demands of a small practice.

In 2017 she formed Vig Law, P.C. and has practiced under that firm name since. The firm is her primary office and the base for her current work. During this period she also expanded involvement in professional organizations. She has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association since 2014. In 2017 she joined both the Sangamon County Bar Association and the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association; she continues those memberships.

Vig holds admissions in multiple courts. She is admitted in Illinois state courts, including the Fourth District of Illinois. She also has federal admission to the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, Springfield Division, and she is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Those credentials allow her to handle matters at trial and to pursue appeals when cases progress beyond the trial level.

Her practice record reflects a mix of solo practice responsibilities and work as part of a small firm. That background has given her experience in motion practice, brief writing and courtroom appearances. Colleagues and opposing counsel know her for steady preparation and a methodical approach to litigation. She maintains a shoestring familiarity with both the procedural mechanics of trial work and the particular practices of Illinois courts.

Today she operates Vig Law, P.C., representing clients in state and federal forums in Illinois and in the Seventh Circuit. She concentrates her practice on the types of civil matters permitted by her admitted jurisdictions and carries on her firm’s work from her office at Vig Law, P.C.
