About Peter
Peter Beard earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1997. He began law school in 1994 and completed the degree three years later. The record of his education places him among a generation of Illinois lawyers who entered practice in the late 1990s.
He moved into public service immediately after law school. In 1997 he joined the Sangamon County State's Attorney's office as an assistant. The role put him into courtroom work early. He handled matters that required regular interaction with judges, prosecutors and defense counsel. The experience shaped his approach to litigation.
Two years later he stepped into a statewide role. In 1999 he was an assistant in the Illinois Attorney General's office. That position exposed him to a broader set of legal issues and to more complex state-level litigation. It also gave him experience in managing cases that involved state agencies.
In 2000 he entered private practice as a partner at Holley, Rosen & Beard. Becoming a partner marked a shift from government work to running a law practice and representing private clients. At the firm he balanced casework, client counseling and the administrative duties that come with a partnership. Over time his work at the firm has reflected the procedural and trial experience he gained in public roles.
Beard maintains active memberships in several professional organizations. He belongs to the Sangamon County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. These affiliations suggest ongoing ties to local and statewide legal communities. He appears regularly in venues where trial practice and civil litigation are discussed.
