About Sara

Sara Hashmi holds both a Doctor of Pharmacy and a Juris Doctorate. She earned her PharmD from the University of Tennessee in Memphis and later studied law at South Texas College of Law. That combination of clinical training and legal education has informed her career choices from the start.

Her early years were spent in community pharmacy. She worked as a staff pharmacist at Rite Aid in 2000 and moved to Sam’s Club Pharmacy, where she served as a staff pharmacist in 2001, became pharmacy manager in 2002, and returned to a staff pharmacist role in 2005. Those positions put her on the front lines of dispensing, compliance and workplace management. They also gave her practical insight into the day-to-day pressures of pharmacy operations.

Hashmi transitioned into law in the 2010s. She served as an associate lawyer at Edwards & Associates in 2014 and took on a director-level role at Greenway Consulting, PLLC in 2016. In 2017 she worked as a contract associate lawyer at Chamberlain Hrdlicka. Each role added a different angle to her practice, from firm-based litigation and counseling to consulting and project work for health-care clients.

Alongside practice, Hashmi has taught pharmacy law and ethics. In 2018 she was an instructor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, bringing legal context to pharmacy students learning regulatory and ethical obligations. Her background as a licensed pharmacist informs her classroom work and her legal advice, creating a link between clinical standards and regulatory compliance.

By 2021 she joined Sorrels Law as a lawyer and PharmD. She is a current member of the Texas State Bar and the Houston Bar Association, and she is listed with both the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Those memberships reflect dual professional identities: pharmacist and attorney.

Colleagues describe her career as one built on sequential experience in pharmacy practice, management, teaching and legal counsel. Her work history moves clearly from hands-on pharmacy roles to law practice and consulting, then into academic instruction and back into firm practice. She currently practices at Sorrels Law, handling matters that arise where pharmacy practice and health-care regulation intersect.
