About Sam
Sam Strantz earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2015. He arrived at law school after undergraduate study elsewhere and completed a curriculum that included courses relevant to business, regulatory matters, and the legal issues that often arise in sports and entertainment. Law school marked the beginning of an interest in the intersection of commercial practice and the sports and entertainment industries.
He joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC upon graduation in 2015. He took an associate role in the firm’s Financial Services, Sports & Entertainment group. In that position he worked on matters that blended transactional and industry-specific concerns. His early years at the firm involved advising on agreements and client needs that touch both financial services and entertainment sectors.
Strantz is admitted to practice in Tennessee and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is an active member of several professional organizations. He has belonged to the Tennessee Bar Association since 2015 and to the Memphis Bar Association over the same period. Within the Memphis Bar Association he served as chair of the Young Lawyers Division in 2018, a role that involved organizing programming and outreach for early-career lawyers. He also joined the Sports Lawyers Association in 2019 and has maintained that membership since then.
Colleagues describe his work as practical and detail-oriented. He spends time on contract review, regulatory compliance questions, and transactions where timing and industry norms matter. He approaches client matters by breaking problems into discrete steps. That method helps when issues span different practice areas, such as finance and media or athlete representation and commercial agreements.
Outside of firm practice he has participated in bar activities and programming aimed at younger attorneys and professionals in sports law. His committee and leadership roles in the Memphis Bar Association reflect an interest in professional development and local bar engagement rather than seeking public profile.
Strantz continues to practice at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC. He concentrates his practice on matters arising at the crossroads of financial services and the sports and entertainment sectors.
