About Sal John

Sal John Sheikh built a professional path that moves from military training to private practice. He lives and works in Illinois and maintains an office in The Pontiac Building. His career combines courtroom work, client counseling and community involvement.

He completed a Bachelor of Arts in political science, concentrating in international relations, at California State University, Chico in 2001. He then trained at the United States Army Field Artillery School as an M109A6 cannon crewmember (MOS 13B) in the mid-1990s. Sheikh earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2005.

After law school he entered practice in the Chicago area. In 2007 he worked at the Law Office of Richard S. Cohan, where he gained early experience handling client matters and learning the routines of a small firm. Two years later he established The Law Office of Salim John Sheikh. That practice, opened in 2009, is where he has built his day-to-day work and developed his professional network.

Sheikh joined the Illinois State Bar Association in 2009 and holds ongoing membership. He is also active with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, an organization that provides civil legal services. Outside the bar and legal aid circles he is a member of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Illinois and stays connected to his alma maters through both the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni Association and the California State University, Chico Alumni Association.

His trajectory reflects a mix of public service and private practice. The military training he received early in his life sits alongside years spent representing individuals and handling litigation at a local level. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing files and attentive in client interviews.

Sheikh maintains an office in The Pontiac Building where he conducts client meetings and manages his caseload. He practices under the jurisdiction of Illinois and engages in professional activities tied to that community. His current practice focuses on client representation in Illinois and involvement in local legal assistance efforts.
