About S. Linn

S. Linn Perkins trained first as a scientist and later in the law. He earned a Bachelor of Science from McMurray College in 1984 and took his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1990. Those credentials set the stage for a long career in Illinois courts and beyond.

Perkins practices at Vonachen, Lawless, Trager & Slevin. He appears in state court across Illinois and is admitted to practice before the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois. His courtroom work spans both state and federal forums, and he has developed experience handling matters that proceed to trial.

His professional associations reflect a broad engagement with the legal community. He holds memberships in the American Bankruptcy Institute, the American Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar. He is also active in local and trial-focused groups, including the Peoria County Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Within the Abraham Lincoln Inns of Court he serves as a Barrister, participating in programs intended to foster ethical practice and mentoring.

Early in his career Perkins moved between litigation and bankruptcy work. That mix is evident in the cases he accepts and the filings he handles in federal court. He counsels clients on contested matters and often takes disputes to trial when necessary. He also prepares pleadings and argues discovery and motion practice in both state and federal settings. Colleagues describe him as steady at the podium and attentive to procedural detail.

Outside the courtroom he participates in bar education and local programming through the Inns and county bar association. He maintains professional ties across the Seventh Circuit and engages with national groups that track bankruptcy law and trial practice. He is a practical courtroom lawyer who sustains an active practice in Illinois and in federal courts, handling bankruptcy and civil trial matters.
