About Ryan Y.

Ryan Y. Cunningham earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1996. He finished law school at a time when the legal profession in Oklahoma was changing fast. The degree marked the start of what has become three decades in practice.

Early in his career Cunningham built a routine that combined casework and client counseling. Over the years he navigated the steady rhythms of court calendars, filings and negotiation sessions. He developed a practical approach to problem-solving. He values clarity in legal writing and directness at the negotiating table.

Cunningham’s career includes long-term work in private practice. His surname is part of the firm name Cunningham & Mears, where he practices today. That association indicates an enduring investment in a single professional setting. Remaining with one firm for many years shapes a lawyer’s day-to-day work. It also creates opportunities to mentor younger lawyers and to manage longer-running client matters.

Colleagues and clients who have worked with him describe an attorney who concentrates on getting matters resolved. He balances courtroom preparation with efforts to settle when resolution serves his clients’ interests. He approaches cases in plain terms and tries to make legal options intelligible to people who are not lawyers.

Outside the office, his law school credential ties him to a broader Oklahoma legal community. Graduates from the University of Oklahoma College of Law maintain networks across state courts, state government and private practice. That network has been part of Cunningham’s operating environment since 1996.

The rhythm of his practice reflects practical priorities: clear advice, steady case management and responsiveness to client needs. He has continually handled the routine work that keeps a law practice functioning—drafting documents, appearing in court as required and advising clients on strategy. Those tasks occupy much of his professional life and define the services he offers.

Today, Cunningham remains at Cunningham & Mears. He has practiced law for roughly thirty years and continues to serve the firm’s clients. His current practice focuses on client representation at Cunningham & Mears.
