About Ryan

Ryan Shafer built his legal foundation in classrooms and courtrooms. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cincinnati in 2002, studying business and political science. He went on to Duquesne University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2006.

After law school, Shafer entered private practice. In 2007 he worked at the Dominic Frank Law Offices. The following year he moved into public defense work, joining the Franklin County Public Defender's Office as a public defender. That role placed him in front of judges and juries regularly and shaped his courtroom approach. In 2014 he began an association with Joslyn Law Office as a lawyer, where he has continued his practice.

Those early years show a steady progression from associate roles to positions that demanded independent judgment. His time in the public defender’s office gave him trial exposure and client management experience. Returning to private practice meant applying that experience to a broader range of cases and clients.

Shafer holds memberships in several legal organizations that reflect his professional interests. He is a member of the Columbus Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association. He belongs to the Ohio Association for Justice and the Central Ohio Association For Justice. His membership in the National College of DUI Defense signals an involvement in defense work related to impaired driving cases.

Community work figures in Shafer’s profile as well. He volunteers with the Salvation Army and offers time to the Legal Aid Society. Those activities align with the public-service work he carried out earlier in his career and keep him connected to community needs outside of the courtroom.

Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in handling casework. He handles client interviews, evidence review, and courtroom representation. His mix of public defender experience and years in private practice give him perspective on both prosecutorial processes and defense strategy.

Shafer is licensed to practice in Ohio. He continues to work through Joslyn Law Office, representing clients in criminal defense matters, including DUI cases and related proceedings.

He currently practices at Joslyn Law Office in Ohio, handling criminal defense and DUI matters.
