About Ryan
Ryan Mergl earned his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law in 2003. He completed his legal education during a period of change in the profession and entered practice at a time when courtroom experience remained a central route to building a practice.
In 2007 he became principal of Mergl Law Offices. That role put him in charge of day-to-day matters at the firm and involved both client counseling and courtroom work. Over time he handled matters that required litigation experience and an ability to manage files from intake through resolution.
In 2016 Mergl served as a prosecutor in the Mercer County District Lawyer's Office. That year in public service added trial work and case management in a government setting to his résumé. The prosecutor role exposed him to courtroom schedules, plea negotiations and working with law enforcement and victims, all elements that contrast with private-practice responsibilities.
He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mergl maintains an active membership in the Pennsylvania State Bar. His admissions allow him to handle matters at the state level and, where appropriate, to participate in appeals before the federal appellate panel that covers Pennsylvania.
Mergl has operated under the name Mergl Law and maintains offices listed under that firm name. Over the years he has balanced private practice responsibilities with periods of public-service work. That combination has shaped how he approaches case preparation and courtroom advocacy, and it has informed the administrative side of running a small firm.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves between the demands of trial work and the organizational chores of firm leadership. He has experience on both sides of the courthouse doors. He currently practices at Mergl Law, representing clients in matters before Pennsylvania courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
