About Ryan
Ryan McPhie built a courtroom-ready education before he ever argued a case. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, studying finance and entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University and completed his Juris Doctor at the Sandra Day OConnor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2011. Those years set a practical tone. He came to law school after studying business, and that background shapes how he approaches disputes.
He began his legal career in private practice at Hastings & Hastings in 2011. A year later he joined the Maricopa County Attorneys Office as a deputy county lawyer, handling cases on behalf of the state. That public-service stretch gave him courtroom time and exposure to criminal casework. It also established relationships across the Phoenix legal community.
In 2014 he launched his own practice. Initially known as McPhie Law, the firm later became Grand Canyon Law Group. He is listed as owner and lawyer, and he has taken cases that progress beyond state court. His credentials include practice in Arizona and admission to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, reflecting work in both trial and appellate settings.
McPhie maintains ties to professional organizations that align with trial and criminal work. He has been a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association since 2011. He joined the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association and Arizona Lawyers for Criminal Justice in 2014. In 2015 he became a member of the American Academy of Trial Lawyers. He also belongs to the American Institute of Criminal Law Lawyers. These memberships indicate a continuing interest in trial practice and criminal defense issues.
His style in court is informed by a business background and years of handling public and private matters. He has moved between prosecutorside work and defense representation, and he runs a small firm that handles contested matters for clients in Arizona. He currently practices at Grand Canyon Law Group, handling criminal defense and trial litigation.
