About Ryan A.
Ryan A. Devlin built his legal foundation in the classroom and in the courtroom. He earned a J.D. from New England Law | Boston in 2013 after completing a B.A. in Philosophy and Classical Languages at Saint Michael's College in 2009. Those studies gave him a grounding in analysis and argument that he carried into practice.
His earliest legal work came while he was still in school. In 2011 he served as a law clerk at the Law Offices of William J. Clary. That role exposed him to day-to-day client work and courtroom procedures, and it informed his approach as he began handling matters more independently after graduation.
After law school he joined Danehey & Osterberg, P.C. as an associate lawyer in 2014. He spent those years building litigation experience, drafting pleadings, and appearing in state court. In 2018 he moved to Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. as a litigation associate, taking on a broader slate of contested matters and gaining deeper trial experience.
In 2023 he took a position in public service, serving as an Assistant Lawyer General in the Massachusetts Lawyer General's Office. That year offered exposure to government-side litigation and regulatory matters. It also added a public law dimension to the civil litigation background he had developed in private practice.
Devlin is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He splits his professional life between private firm work and occasional public assignments, drawing on courtroom experience and procedural knowledge in federal and state forums. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and exacting in preparation; clients have relied on him for methodical case handling.
Throughout his career he has focused on litigation and courtroom advocacy. He has handled matters at multiple stages of dispute resolution, from pretrial motion practice to trial preparation. His earlier training in philosophy and classical languages continues to shape how he frames legal problems and constructs argument.
He currently practices at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C., where his work centers on litigation in Massachusetts courts.
