About Russell

Russell Hebets began his academic path in economics and ended up in the courtroom. He earned an M.S. in economics from the University of Michigan in 1997 and completed his J.D. at Indiana University Bloomington in 2000. Those studies provided a blend of analytic training and legal doctrine that he later applied in criminal defense work.

Early in his career Hebets moved into defense practice. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the Federal Circuit. Over the years he has joined several professional organizations tied to criminal and DUI defense, including the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, where he has held membership since 2008. In 2010 he became a member of the National College of DUI Defense, a group that organizes training and peer review for attorneys handling driving-under-the-influence cases.

Training has been part of Hebets’s professional development. He completed the Intensive Summer Session in DUI Defense Law at Harvard Law School through the National College of DUI Defense. That program is designed for lawyers who regularly handle impaired-driving cases and emphasizes courtroom strategy, forensic issues, and evolving law. Hebets has used that instruction to inform his approach to cases and to stay current on technical and legal developments that affect DUI proceedings.

His association memberships also include the DUI Defense Lawyers Association, where he maintains active participation. Participation in these groups keeps him connected to peers who handle similar matters and provides continuing education opportunities. He has remained involved in Colorado’s defense community and in organizations that address the practical challenges of DUI representation.

Hebets practices from Hebets & McCallin PC. The firm handles criminal defense matters and services related to impaired-driving charges. He represents clients in state courts in Colorado and engages with matters that touch on federal jurisdiction when appropriate. His work includes advising clients on legal options, courtroom advocacy, and navigating procedural issues that arise in criminal cases.

Colleagues describe him as steady in court and detail-oriented in case preparation. He combines earlier training in economics with legal study to approach evidence and penalty calculations carefully. He continues to practice at Hebets & McCallin PC, where his work concentrates on criminal and DUI defense matters.
