About Russell

Russell Haugen is a partner and lawyer at Woodruff Johnson & Evans who has been with the firm since 2009. He practices in Illinois and has developed his work through involvement in trial and workers' compensation circles. His career is built around courtroom experience, case preparation and work across multiple firm offices in Chicago, Champaign and Aurora.

He earned a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University in 2005. He then pursued legal studies in Michigan, completing a concentration in litigation at Western Michigan University and receiving his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2009. Those academic years established the foundation for the courtroom work he later took on.

Shortly after finishing law school he joined Woodruff Johnson & Evans. The firm lists him as a partner and lawyer beginning in 2009. Over the years he has handled matters that align with the professional organizations he belongs to. He practices at the firm’s Chicago, Champaign and Aurora locations and splits time among those offices depending on case needs.

His professional memberships track the areas he works in. He has been a member of the Illinois State Bar since 2009. He joined the Workers Compensation Lawyers Association in 2013 and became part of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association in 2017. He also maintains membership in the Illinois State Bar Association. These affiliations connect him to colleagues in litigation and workers’ compensation work and provide access to continuing education and case law resources.

Colleagues describe his role as centered on trial preparation and advocacy. He represents clients in proceedings related to workplace injury and related disputes, and he handles civil litigation matters that require court appearances or negotiated resolutions. He has developed methods for preparing cases for trial while also handling settlements and administrative hearings when appropriate.

Outside of casework he participates in the professional networks that keep him current on changing statutes and procedural rules in Illinois. He attends association events and continuing legal education programs that relate to trial tactics and workers’ compensation developments.

He concentrates his practice on workers’ compensation and civil litigation matters at Woodruff Johnson & Evans.
