About Russ

Russ Janklow is an attorney based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with a specialization in personal injury and civil litigation. With over 35 years of experience, he has successfully tried more than 100 jury trials across South Dakota. Born in Vermillion, South Dakota, and raised in Pierre, Russ developed a strong connection to his home state. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Creighton University in 1985, laying a solid academic foundation for his legal career.

Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a Juris Doctor at the prestigious University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1989. This rigorous legal education gave him the skills necessary to excel in the courtroom and effectively represent his clients. After completing law school, Russ began his legal career by clerking for the South Dakota First Judicial Circuit Court in Yankton from 1989 to 1990. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into the judicial process and the workings of the court system. In 1990, he joined the law firm Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith in Sioux Falls, where he practiced until 1995. During this time, he developed his litigation skills and built a reputation as a dedicated attorney.

In 1995, Russ became a partner at Johnson, Heidepriem, Janklow & Abdallah, a firm that later evolved into Johnson Janklow Abdallah, LLP. Since its inception, he has been an integral part of the firm, contributing to its growth and success. Throughout his career, Russ has received numerous accolades for his litigation skills. He has been listed in "Best Lawyers in America" since 2010 and was named "Lawyer of the Year" in Sioux Falls for plaintiffs’ personal injury litigation in 2014. Additionally, he has been recognized as a South Dakota "Super Lawyer" since 2007, an honor awarded to the top 5% of practicing attorneys in the state. Russ is an active member of the South Dakota State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S.

Court of Appeals for the First, Second. Eighth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. His fluency in English and conversational Spanish allows him to connect with clients.
