About Amanda
Amanda Engel grew up with a steady interest in law and public affairs. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of North Dakota and stayed in Grand Forks to complete her legal training at the University of North Dakota School of Law. Her academic years combined classroom study and practical work that tested her interest in how law and policy intersect.
After law school she began her professional career at Zimmer, Duncan & Cole. Over the years she has handled the range of tasks that a small-firm lawyer often faces: researching complex issues, drafting pleadings and agreements, and advising clients on procedural matters. Her colleagues describe her as precise in legal writing and methodical in preparing cases, traits that show up in the work she does day to day.
Engel is licensed to practice in South Dakota. That jurisdiction shapes much of the work she undertakes, from supervising filings in state courts to working with local regulatory frameworks. She keeps a practical approach to litigation and client counseling. She focuses on clear explanations for clients who need to make difficult decisions under tight timelines.
Outside of court papers and client meetings, Engel invests time in continuing legal education and local professional activities. She has kept up with developments in state law and procedural rules, which helps her anticipate how issues are likely to unfold in court. Today she practices at Zimmer, Duncan & Cole, LLP in South Dakota. Her current practice is centered on the matters she handles through that firm.
