About Ron
Ron Payne began his professional path in music. He earned a B.A. in Music Education and Euphonium Performance from Appalachian State University in 2004. After several years that included musical training and teaching, he returned to school and received his J.D. from Wake Forest University in 2011. Those two degrees shape a practical and orderly approach to practice: one is trained in performance and instruction, the other in law.
He moved into private practice soon after law school. In 2011 he took on the role of managing partner at Payne Law, PLLC. That early leadership role meant running a small firm while building a client base and courtroom experience. In 2018 he became co-managing partner of Apple Payne Law, PLLC, a step that formalized a partnership and a shared approach to managing cases and firm operations.
Payne has been involved in continuing legal education and professional programming. He has served on the Family Law CLE Committee since 2011, taking part in planning and delivery of training for fellow practitioners. That committee work has kept him connected to developments in family law practice and procedure across North Carolina. It also suggests a steady engagement with colleagues and the court system over time.
Colleagues describe him as practical and methodical in intake and case preparation. His background in education shows in how he explains complex legal issues to clients. In the courtroom he balances preparation with clarity; outside it he spends time handling the administrative demands of managing a small firm.
Apple Payne Law, PLLC lists him as a co-managing partner and he continues to handle cases through that office. He remains licensed in North Carolina and maintains an active role in casework and firm management. He handles family law matters and related litigation as part of his current practice focus.
