About John J.
John J. Barrow is an attorney who combines courtroom experience with community involvement and an unusual sideline in motorsports. He earned his J.D. from Campbell University School of Law in 1988 after completing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His education began in Forsyth County, where he graduated from East Forsyth Senior High School.
Barrow has practiced in North Carolina for decades and holds admission to practice in the State of North Carolina and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has been a member in good standing of the North Carolina Bar Association since 1991. Over the years he has handled matters in both state and federal courts, bringing appeals when necessary to the Fourth Circuit.
His courtroom work has included criminal trials, and his peers have placed him in leadership roles in local trial lawyer organizations. He serves as president of the Forsyth County Criminal Trial Lawyers Association and has been active on the executive committee of the Forsyth County Bar Association. He also served on the Ethics Committee of the 21st Judicial Bar from 2007 to 2010. That combination of trial work and bar service informs how he approaches cases and client counseling.
Beyond litigation, Barrow is a board-certified Family Financial Mediator under the North Carolina State Bar. He is qualified to handle financial aspects of family law disputes and to mediate related matters. He balances trial work and mediation in his practice, often advising clients where negotiation may resolve disputes more efficiently than contested hearings.
Outside the office he pursues motorsports. He was a NASCAR car owner and driver from 1992 through 2007. Since 2006 he has been involved with the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association as team owner, driver, president and technical director. Beginning in 2009 he added a team role in the East Coast Timing Association where he continues as a team owner and driver. Those activities reflect a long-term commitment to competitive racing and team management.
Barrow operates from the Law Offices of John Barrow, P.A., in Forsyth County. His practice combines criminal defense, appeals work in the Fourth Circuit, and family financial mediation, and he continues to take cases in those areas today.
