About Rohit

Rohit Kumar took a circuitous route to the practice of law. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and International Relations at the University of Southern California in 2002, then returned to school for a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 2014. Those two degrees shape how he frames client problems — practical questions, and legal answers.

After finishing law school, Kumar established himself in New York. He is a member of the State Bar of New York and maintains his practice in the state. Over the years he has combined courtroom-oriented professional ties with community-focused work. Since 2018 he has been a member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. That affiliation places him in a network of lawyers who regularly handle contested matters and courtroom practice.

Kumar’s community involvement is more than nominal. Beginning in 2020 he took on the role of Pro Bono Clearinghouse Coordinator for the South Asian Bar Association of New York. In that capacity he organizes volunteer resources and connects lawyers to clients who need legal help but cannot afford it. The role has become a steady part of his professional profile, reflecting a sustained engagement with pro bono work within the New York bar community.

He practices from the Law Office of Rohit J. Kumar. The firm name appears on filings and listings in New York, where he handles matters for clients across the state. Colleagues describe him as detail-oriented in intake and methodical in preparing cases. He has maintained ongoing membership in local professional groups, which keeps him plugged into developments in trial practice and procedural law.

Kumar’s background in business and international relations informs his approach to client counseling. He tends to frame disputes in terms that clients can use when making decisions about risk, settlement and litigation strategy. He has balanced courtroom engagement through associations with hands-on service organizing pro bono representation for underserved communities.

Today, Kumar runs the Law Office of Rohit J. Kumar in New York and continues to represent individuals and small organizations in matters across the state.
