About Rodney
Rodney Alves studied law in Brazil and completed advanced studies in the United States. He earned a J.D. from Mackenzie University Law School (1994) and later pursued an LL.M. in Mergers & Acquisitions at the University of California, Los Angeles (2004). His academic path combined domestic legal training with an American postgraduate degree that sharpened his transactional perspective.
He began his professional career in the mid-1990s. His first listed role was as Associate General Counsel at Interactive Brasil Ltd. in 1994. He moved into private practice as a senior associate at Villemor Amaral Law Offices in 1996. By 2000 he was serving as a lawyer manager at Castro, Campos & Associates, overseeing day-to-day legal work and mentoring junior lawyers.
The 2000s brought more international and in-house responsibilities. In 2005 he returned to D Artagnan Entertainment, Inc. as International Legal Counsel and then became an advisor at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP in 2006. He took on a general counsel role at D Artagnan Entertainment, Inc. in 2008. Those positions placed him at the intersection of corporate operations and cross-border legal issues, handling contracts, compliance and transaction matters that involved multiple jurisdictions.
In the 2010s Alves turned to firm leadership. He formed Alves & Associates in 2011 and later was a partner at Alves & Benedek in 2014. These roles expanded his responsibilities to include client development, deal structuring and firm management. His career traces a steady progression from in-house counsel to senior private-practice roles, including partnership positions that required both legal judgment and administrative oversight.
Alves is licensed to practice in Brazil and in California. His bilingual background and mixed practice history give him familiarity with Brazilian corporate law and U.S. transactional practice. Clients in entertainment, corporate and cross-border transactions have been among the areas where he has worked, reflecting his earlier academic concentration on mergers and acquisitions.
He currently practices from Alves Law. The office represents clients in corporate and transactional matters, and Alves continues to handle cross-border deals and corporate legal work.
