About Rocco Philip Thomas

Rocco Philip Thomas Columbus grew up pursuing law from the classroom to the courthouse. He earned a B.A. in Government from the College of William and Mary in 2002, then completed his J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in 2006. Those academic years set the stage for a practice that has moved between prosecution and defense.

He entered practice in Virginia shortly after law school. In 2007 he served as an Assistant Commonwealth's Lawyer in Brunswick County and also worked that year as an associate in a private practice. Over the next decade he held a series of associate positions at small firms, including the Law Office of Mark Mokris, P.C., the Law Offices of Sris P.C. in 2011, and the Law Office of John Naumovski, P.C. in 2014. In 2016 he returned to public defense as an Assistant Public Defender in Suffolk, then spent a year at Price Benowitz, P.C. before joining Randall, Page & Bruch, P.C. as an associate in 2018.

Those roles gave him exposure to courtroom work on both sides of criminal cases. As an assistant commonwealth's lawyer he handled prosecutorial tasks for a county office. As a public defender he represented individuals facing criminal charges. In private practice he worked on litigation and client counseling tied to those experiences. The mix of prosecution, defense and civil-side associate work has shaped a practical approach to case preparation and courtroom strategy.

Columbus is admitted to practice in Virginia and is authorized to appear in the Eastern District of Virginia for federal matters. He has maintained a steady presence in regional courts and developed familiarity with local procedures and judges over the years.

Colleagues and clients confront him with a range of matters that require trial readiness and attention to procedural detail. He has handled pretrial motions, case investigations and plea negotiations, and he brings that routine courtroom experience to the matters he takes on. His career path reflects movement between government service and private practice, giving him perspective on how cases are shaped at each stage.

Since 2018 he has been an associate at Randall, Page & Bruch, P.C. There he continues to represent clients in state and federal matters, applying his prior prosecutorial and defense experience to current cases.

He is currently engaged in litigation and trial work in Virginia and in the Eastern District of Virginia federal courts.
