About Robert Tyler

Robert Tyler Bezilla graduated from George Mason University School of Law in 2015 after completing his undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, University Park in 2012. He attended Mercersburg Academy, finishing in 2007. That steady academic progression set a clear path into public service and courtroom work.

He began his legal career in the commonwealth system. In 2016 he joined the Fauquier Commonwealth Lawyer's Office as an Assistant Commonwealth Lawyer. The role involved day-to-day prosecutorial tasks, case preparation and courtroom appearances. Colleagues from that period describe a lawyer who learned quickly on his feet and met the practical demands of busy dockets.

In 2020 he moved to the Fairfax Commonwealth Lawyer's Office and took on the title of Senior Assistant Commonwealth Lawyer. The position expanded his responsibilities. He handled more complex matters and mentored junior lawyers. The Fairfax assignment placed him in a larger jurisdiction with varied caseloads and significant trial exposure.

Bezilla is certified for felony cases by the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission. That credential allows him to accept and manage serious criminal matters in Virginia courts. It also signals a shift in the balance of his work. After years on the prosecution side, the certification supports his capacity to handle felony defense work when representing clients who qualify for appointed counsel or when retained for serious charges.

In 2023 he opened Bezilla Law, PLLC and took on the role of Principal. The firm is the center of his present practice. His background in both city and county commonwealth offices informs how he approaches cases now. He draws on courtroom experience from time as an assistant and senior assistant commonwealth lawyer, and on the procedural knowledge gained handling felony matters while certified by the state commission.

People who have worked with him note a practical approach to litigation. He tends to weigh the strengths and weaknesses of a case early and to prepare thoroughly for hearings and trials. That work ethic grew out of a mix of public-service assignments and the demands of establishing a private practice.

He currently practices at Bezilla Law, PLLC, focusing on criminal defense and felony cases.
