About Robert Tee
Robert Tee Spjute is an attorney based in Utah whose early academic path set a clear course toward public service and the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Speech Communication from the University of Utah in 2004. He stayed at the same campus for law school, receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2008.
His legal training included a mix of legislative and courtroom exposure. In 2008 he worked as a legislative intern for the Utah House of Representatives. The following year he interned at the Utah Federal District Court, gaining firsthand experience in federal proceedings. In 2010 he served as a law clerk in the Environment Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office. That position provided time in administrative and regulatory settings and introduced him to environmental and governmental legal issues. In 2011 he held two law clerk positions, one with the Utah Second District Court and another at the private firm Winder and Counsel, P.C. He moved into private practice in 2012, taking a role as an associate lawyer at Shumway Van & Hansen.
The sequence of roles shows a lawyer comfortable in courtrooms, administrative hearings and legislative settings. Clerking for a district court and for the Attorney General’s environmental team gave him exposure to procedural and substantive questions across civil and regulatory matters. His time in the legislature and at the federal court level added perspective on how statutes and rules are applied from drafting through adjudication.
Beyond his legal work, Spjute maintains involvement in local organizations. He is a member of the Salt Lake Aquarium Society. He also holds membership in the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and has participated on its Clean Air Committee Task Force. These associations reflect interests that overlap public policy and community engagement.
Colleagues describe his career as steady and practical. He has moved through public-sector and private-sector roles that emphasize preparation and courtroom readiness. He is admitted to practice in Utah and has continued to build a practice informed by his range of clerkships and early litigation and regulatory work. He practices law in Utah, drawing on his courtroom and environmental experience to address client matters.
