About Robert S.
Robert S. Stephen built a career that crosses corporate counsel work, private practice and classroom instruction. He began at the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, where he earned a B.B.A. in 1988. He went on to Suffolk University Law School and received his J.D. in 1993. Later, he returned to graduate study and earned an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University in 2006. The combination of business and legal training has shaped the work he does today.
His first legal post was a federal clerkship in 1993 with the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. That year in court work was followed by litigation practice in 1994 at Bouchard & Mallory, P.A., where he handled civil matters for a variety of clients. He later moved into in-house and business-facing roles. In 1997 he joined ADP Total Source as Legal Counsel and Director of Client Services. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University beginning in 1998.
The mid-2000s brought a shift toward firm leadership and corporate counsel roles. In 2004 he became Managing Partner of Stephen Law Group, PLLC. That same year he took on general counsel assignments at LifeShare Management Group, Inc. and at Hannah International Foods Inc. Those positions involved corporate governance, contract negotiation, employment issues and compliance work. Over time he combined those in-house responsibilities with running a private practice that serves businesses and individuals.
Stephen holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from the Society for Human Resource Management. He is admitted to practice in New Hampshire, where he has been a member of the bar since 1993, and in Massachusetts since 1994. He joined the Maine Bar Association in 2021. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. From 2003 to 2008 he maintained a membership with the New Hampshire Real Estate Commission, a role that informed parts of his transactional practice.
Today he leads Stephen Law Group, PLLC as managing partner. His practice handles corporate and transactional matters, employment and labor questions, real estate issues and related litigation when disputes arise. He represents clients across New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine and continues to split time between advisory work and courtroom matters. His current practice focuses on business, employment, and real estate matters.
