About Robert S.
Robert S. Duxstad graduated from Luther College in 1975 with a B.A. in accounting and politics and earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1978. He moved into practice in Wisconsin shortly thereafter and has combined an interest in legal procedure with long involvement in local civic affairs.
Since 1978 he has served as managing shareholder of Duxstad & Bestul, S.C. The title reflects both an early start in private practice and sustained leadership within the firm. Over decades he has balanced casework with oversight of office operations and the administrative responsibilities that come with running a small firm.
Duxstad’s professional affiliations run from local to statewide organizations. He holds membership in the State Bar of Wisconsin and participates in its Litigation and Office Management sections. He is also active in the Lafayette County Bar Association and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. His service record includes time on the board of the Wisconsin Association for Justice from 1990 to 1997 and an earlier presidency of the Green County Bar Association in 1987.
His civic activity is extensive. He served as president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and led the Monroe Commerce and Industry Foundation in 1988. He was a board member of the Monroe Arts Center from 2006 to 2013 and has been on the Monroe Business Improvement District board since 2009. He is a former member of the Green County YMCA board of directors and has been involved in capital campaigns for the YMCA and St. Clare Hospital. He has also been active in local education matters, serving as co-chair of the Monroe School District Facilities Committee and as a member of the district's extracurricular activity committee.
In addition to organizational leadership, Duxstad contributes to the legal community in practical ways. He serves as an arbitrator for the Wisconsin Fee Arbitration Program and volunteers as a mock trial judge. He also presents at continuing legal education programs and at the People’s Law School, bringing courtroom and office experience to practicing lawyers and to members of the public.
His practice in Monroe handles litigation and criminal defense matters for individuals and businesses. As managing shareholder he continues to manage firm affairs while representing clients in court, arbitration, and administrative settings. He currently practices from the Monroe office of Duxstad & Bestul, S.C., concentrating on litigation and criminal defense matters.
