About Robert

Robert Nichols took a less traditional path to law. He earned a B.A. in Film and Digital Media Production from Arizona State University in 2014 and later completed his J.D. at Golden Gate University School of Law in 2020. While at Golden Gate he received academic certifications for excellence in Public Policy Law and in Intellectual Property Law, marks that reflected his varied interests inside the classroom.

Early in law school he worked in entertainment and arts settings. In 2018 he served as a law clerk at California Lawyers for the Arts and the following year took clerk positions at Berman Entertainment and Technology Law and at ARC Law Group. Those roles exposed him to contract work, rights clearance and the practical side of representing creators and small businesses.

The year he finished law school he moved into several legal and policy roles. He was a law clerk at the Veterans Legal Advocacy Center and served as a legislative and administrative fellow to San Francisco City Supervisor Dean Preston. He also worked as an associate lawyer at Scale LLP in 2020. In 2021 he was a legal assistant at Boisineau Law, and in 2020 he co-founded and became a director of the Arizona Progressive Peoples Alliance, a nonprofit he helped launch.

In 2023 Nichols established his own practice, Robert Nichols Law PLC, and now lists himself as owner and lawyer. His career has woven together strands of entertainment law, intellectual property questions and public policy work. The practical experience of clerking, working inside local government and managing nonprofit governance informs how he approaches client matters.

Colleagues and former supervisors have described his background as hands-on. He has worked directly on legislative research, assisted veterans through advocacy efforts, and supported creators on transactional issues. The academic certifications he earned at Golden Gate underline a dual interest in policy and IP law, rather than a single specialty.

He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia. His résumé suggests comfort handling matters that touch public policy, administrative proceedings and intellectual property rights.

His current practice concentrates on administrative law, intellectual property issues, and matters arising from public policy.
