About Robert N
Robert N Nicholson studied at the University of Central Florida, earning a B.A. in Legal Studies and Business in 1986. He went on to receive his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law in 1989. Those years set a foundation in both law and the business concerns that often shape health care and regulatory disputes.
Early in his career he worked in federal practice. In 1992 he served at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Criminal Tax section as a trial lawyer. Two years later he moved into the United States Attorneys' Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he served as an assistant United States lawyer in 1994. Those roles involved courtroom work, investigations and coordination with federal enforcement agencies.
Nicholson later entered private practice and counsel roles. In 2007 he was of counsel at Broad and Cassel. In 2009 he joined Nicholson & Eastin, LLP. His resume blends government prosecution experience and private-sector advisory work, which informs how he approaches enforcement and compliance matters now.
He has stayed active in professional and instructional roles alongside his practice. He has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1992. He has taught and instructed for a range of federal programs: the National Advocacy Center from 1998 to 2007, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from 2001 to 2005, and the HHS Office of Inspector General between 2001 and 2003. In 2009 he served as an adjunct professor at Florida International University. He has also appeared as a presenter for the American Bar Association during the 2000s.
Nicholson's professional associations center on health law. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and has chaired the Enforcement Committee of that group's Fraud and Abuse Section since 2011. He serves on the Health Law Section Executive Council of the Florida Bar, where he has been a member since 2009 and co-chaired the Health Law Handbook Committee. These roles reflect an ongoing engagement in policy, compliance guidance and peer education within health care law.
Licensed to practice in Florida and before the Eleventh Circuit, Nicholson brings a mix of prosecutorial background, private practice experience and teaching to his work. He concentrates on health care regulatory matters, enforcement defense and related litigation in his current practice at Nicholson & Eastin, LLP.
