About Robert
Robert Kirwan is a trial lawyer admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been involved in criminal litigation for more than three decades. His record spans work as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney handling serious felony matters and complex trials.
Kirwan began his public-service career as a government prosecutor in 1990. In that role he handled criminal prosecutions and learned courtroom procedures from the prosecutor’s perspective. The experience shaped his approach to trial preparation and evidence presentation. It also gave him regular exposure to jury work, plea negotiations and the early stages of capital litigation in jurisdictions that pursued the death penalty.
In 1994 he moved into private practice and established Kirwan Law. Since then he has worked primarily as a criminal trial lawyer. His caseload has included felony charges, homicide prosecutions and other high-stakes matters that require thorough investigation, witness preparation and strategic trial planning. He represents clients at preliminary hearings, bench trials, jury trials and on appeal when cases proceed beyond the trial court.
Kirwan is death penalty certified in the State of Pennsylvania, a credential that permits him to accept and handle capital cases under state rules. That certification reflects specific training and qualifications required for attorneys who take on capital defense work in Pennsylvania courts. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey as well, and he holds admission to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, which allows him to participate in federal-level appellate matters when necessary.
Colleagues and opponents describe his courtroom style as direct. He draws on years of prosecutorial experience when developing defense strategies. His practice has kept him engaged in both trial and appellate work, and he has represented clients through all phases of criminal litigation. He maintains an office through Kirwan Law where he continues to accept criminal cases and related appeals. He handles criminal defense and related appellate matters in his current practice.
