Robert L. Kardell is a partner at Baird Holm LLP, located at 1700 Farnam Street, Suite 1500 in Omaha, Nebraska. He specializes in cyber law and security, providing critical legal services in an increasingly digital world. Bob joined the Nebraska State Bar in 1992, starting a distinguished legal career. His firm offers a comprehensive range of services, including business and corporate transactions, intellectual property, privacy and data protection, and technology and e-commerce. Bob earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Nebraska College of Law and College of Business in 1991.
Prior to that, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Benedictine College in 1987, graduating with distinction. His academic background laid a strong foundation for his legal expertise, particularly in areas intersecting with finance and technology. To further enhance his skills, he completed the "Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age" program at Harvard University, equipping him with advanced knowledge in cybersecurity. Before entering private practice, Bob dedicated over 22 years to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent and Supervisory Special Agent. His roles included Program Coordinator for Public Corruption, Complex Financial Crime, Healthcare Fraud, and Domestic Terrorism. Throughout his tenure, he testified numerous times as a fact witness in criminal trials and before grand juries.
Bob also drafted expert reports for both accounting and computer investigations, demonstrating his ability to bridge the gap between law enforcement and legal practice. In 2025, Bob was elected to partner at Baird Holm LLP, reflecting his commitment and contributions to the firm. He holds several prestigious certifications, including Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and the GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC). Additionally, he is a certified Paraben computer forensics examiner and was formerly an AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE). These credentials underscore his expertise in both legal and technical aspects of cybersecurity. Active in various professional organizations, Bob is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
He has served on the board and as a member of the editorial advisory committee for "Fraud Magazine." He is also involved with the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Nebraska State Bar Association's Technology Sub-Committee. In June 2024, Bob joined the Omaha Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, leveraging his expertise to enhance community safety. His contributions to the field include authoring publications on cybersecurity and fraud prevention, such as "Consumer Fraud: Who’s Liable," published in the Nebraska Banker Magazine in December 2023.
