About Robert J.

Robert J. Nicola completed his undergraduate studies at Franklin & Marshall College, earning a B.A. in history in 1964. He went on to the University of Connecticut School of Law and received his J.D. in 1967. Those years framed the start of a legal career that has touched both state and federal practice in Connecticut.

Early in his professional life he took on leadership responsibilities. In 1968 he served as president of Owens, Schine & Nicola, PC. That role came just a year after finishing law school and reflected a swift move into firm management. Over time his name became associated with the firm’s Connecticut office, where he worked alongside colleagues on matters arising in the state and in federal courts.

He is admitted to practice before multiple tribunals. His admissions include the Connecticut state courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Those credentials allow him to handle matters across trial and appellate levels. Rather than a single specialty listed on his record, his credentialing indicates the capacity to appear in a variety of forums and to address issues that progress through different court tiers.

Colleagues and clients who have interacted with him over the years have found a lawyer who understands courtroom procedure and appellate practice. He has spent decades working in and around Connecticut’s courts. Over that span he has balanced courtroom appearances, case preparation, and the management responsibilities that come with firm leadership. The record shows sustained involvement in the professional life of his firm and in litigation that engages both federal and state systems.

Today he remains associated with Owens, Schine & Nicola, PC. He continues to accept matters that require admission to Connecticut and federal courts and to manage client concerns that arise at trial and on appeal. He handles matters in both state and federal courts as part of his ongoing practice.
