About Robert
Robert Duncan earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994 and a J.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1998. He stayed within the Illinois legal community after law school, building a practice and a professional network that spans trial work, civil procedure and public-sector engagement. His academic path placed him at two of the state’s major university law programs, and those connections have informed much of his subsequent work.
Duncan became active in statewide and national trial organizations early in his career. He joined the American Association for Justice and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association in 2002. Those memberships were followed by service on the New Lawyers Division Board of Governors from 2004 to 2007 and a role as an associate member of the Civil Practice and Procedure Section Council from 2004 to 2005. His peers recognized him on a national list in 2012 when he was named to the National Trial Lawyers Association Top 40 Under 40; he remains an active member of that organization.
In 2010 he began his association with Duncan Law Group, where he has practiced since. His resume includes both litigation and organizational leadership. He serves as president of the Illinois State Crime Commission and sits on the board of the Police Athletic League of Illinois. Those positions place him at the intersection of law, policy and community programs, and they have given him recurring roles in public discussions about criminal justice and youth programs.
Colleagues describe Duncan as methodical in the courtroom and engaged in professional governance. He has maintained long-standing ties to trial lawyer groups and to organizations focused on civil procedure. That continuity suggests a career shaped as much by case work as by participation in governance and advocacy networks that influence how trials are handled in the state.
Duncan’s practice remains centered in Illinois. He handles litigation matters at Duncan Law Group and continues to participate in committees and boards that touch on criminal justice and civil practice. His work today combines courtroom representation with institutional leadership in state and local legal organizations. He currently practices at Duncan Law Group, where his practice focuses on trial litigation and matters involving criminal justice and civil procedure.
