About Robert B.

Robert B. Buchanan practiced law in Chicago after completing degrees at two well-regarded schools. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009 and a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2012. Those credentials set the stage for a steady climb through private practice and bar association work in Illinois.

He began his professional legal work in 2012 with two of counsel positions, serving at Kearns Law Office, LLC and at Caputo Law Office, P.C. The following year he joined Burch & Associates as an associate attorney. In 2014 he took on a leadership role as managing partner at Johnsen & Buchanan, LLC. In 2016 he became principal lawyer at The Law Offices of Robert B. Buchanan, a position he has held since.

Buchanan holds admission in Illinois and is also authorized to appear before the Seventh Circuit. He has been listed by Super Lawyers, an industry credential that recognizes lawyers through peer nominations and evaluations. His name appears alongside ongoing involvement in the Chicago legal community, an involvement that has included an early role in the Young Lawyers Division of the Chicago Bar Association where he served as Special Projects Coordinator from 2015 to 2016.

He has been a member of the Chicago Bar Association since 2012. Since 2017 he has taken part in the Justice Entrepreneurs Project as a mentor, advising newer practitioners on the business and practical aspects of running a small legal practice. Those roles have reinforced his ties to local professional networks and to lawyers launching their own practices.

The arc of Buchanan’s career shows a mix of firm-side roles and independent practice. The early years provided courtroom and casework experience under established firms. The move into management and then into a principal role signaled a turn toward running a practice and shaping client services. His professional timeline is straightforward and anchored in Illinois practice.

Today he leads The Law Offices of Robert B. Buchanan. He represents clients in matters filed in Illinois state courts and appears for cases in the Seventh Circuit as part of his current practice focus.
